Sulawesi Bird Watching

 

Sulawesi has a total bird count of 350 species, with 4 categories classified: residents 127, endemic 88, migrants 97, and counted as residents or migrants 32. These numbers exclude Sangihe and Talaud, Banggai and Sula islands. Sangihe has 3 endemics, Talaud has 2 endemics, and Banggai has 2 endemics. From the 88 endemic birds of the island, Lore Lindu National Park has the highest number with c. 72, Dumoga Bone 51, and Tangkoko 38 species. Two or three other endemic birds are found in South Sulawesi.

Itenerary: 
Day 01 Arrival – Transfer In Arrive at Sam Ratulangi International Airport, meeting service and directly transfer to your hotel choice. 
Day 02 Manado – Palu (via Makassar) – Lore Lindu National Park 
Transfer to the airport, travelling via a morning flight to Manado and Makassar, connected to Palu will be arriving in the afternoon. Drives to LoreLindu National Park, birding along the main road. Check-in and overnight at Sendy Homestay in Wuasa or Bunga Manila homestay at Sedoa village. 

Day 03 – 04 Birding at Lore Lindu National Park 
Two full day to explore the birding in the Lore Lindu National Park and here you will be accompanied by bird-watching guide who has sharp eyes to spot the birds and has talent for birding. Overnight at the homestay. 
Day 05 Lore Lindu NP – Palu 
Birding early morning around Kalimpa’a, After lunch proceed on driving down to Palu, stay overnight at the hotel in Palu. 

Day 06 Palu – Marisa 
After breakfast, drive to Marisa passing through the mountainous areas with local villages. Lunch en route. 

Day 07 Marisa – Singsingon 
After breakfast, journey will be continued on driving to Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (formerly known Dumoga Bone), Afternoon birding around Gunung Ambang where is a good site for observing a new endemic species called Cinnabar Boobook or Cinnabar Hawk-owl. Drives down to Kotamobagu town, check-in and overnight at Senator Hotel. 

Day 08 Kotamobagu/Gunung Ambang – Bogani Nani Wartabone NP 
Birding early morning around Gunung Ambang for a good morning. Trip continues on driving through western of the park, Afternoon birding along Molibagu road. Check-in and overnight at Tante Min Homestay at Doloduo or at Ranger homestay in Toraut if a big group of birder. 

Day 09-10 Birding at Bogani Nani Wartabone NP 
Two full day to explore the birding in the Dumoga Bone and here you will be accompanied by bird-watching guide who has sharp eyes to spot the birds and has talent for birding. 

Day 11 Bogani Nani Wartabone NP – Tomohon (Minahasa highland) 
After breakfast we will still birding around the park, then return to the accommodation, packing stuff, and drive ahead to Minahasa highland. Check-in and overnight at Onong’s Palace resort. 

Day 12 Tomohon – Tangkoko 
After breakfast. transfer to Tangkoko Nature reserve, Check-in at Tangkoko Lodge near park. If time is permitted, do afternoon birding, included observing a nocturnal primate (Tarsius spectrum), and Black monkey of Sulawesi (Macaca nigra). Overnight at the homestay. 

Day 13-14 Birding at Tangkoko 
Two full day to explore the birding in the Tangkoko Nature Reserve and here you will be accompanied by bird-watching guide who has sharp eyes to spot the birds and has talent for birding. 

Day 15 Tangkoko – Manado 
Still birding around Tangkoko for seeing Red-bellied Pitta, Elegant Pitta, Hooded Pitta, and Crested Myna. Return to the accommodation, Transfer to Manado and free program. 

Day 16: Manado – Next destination 
After breakfast and we will transfer you to the airport for your next destination.
